Annie Josephine Lower - Soprano

Annie Josephine Lower holds a Master of Music Studies (Opera Performance) and a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Australia.

During her studies, Annie’s operatic roles included Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Le Feu/Le Rossignol (L’enfant et les sortileges), Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Cupid (Orpheus in the Underworld - Offenbach) and Goddess Athena (The Labours of Hercules - Antoine Duhamel).

In 2003, Annie was a finalist in the Dame Joan Sutherland Award.

For Opera Queensland, Annie has appeared as a chorister in Romeo et Juliette and Sweeney Todd. She has also performed as a soloist in Strike Up the Chorus, covered the role of Flora in Turn of the Screw and toured with their educational programme, "Moving Opera".

Since 2007, Annie has been based in London, furthering her voice studies in private tuition with tenor Julian Gavin and soprano Paula Anglin. She has also been engaged as a soloist in oratorio and concerts, in England and abroad. Oratorio credits include Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle performed in St John’s Smith Square, London; Handel’s Messiah wth the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Croatia, and Handel’s Israel in Egypt and Mendelssohn’s Lobegesang, both with with the English Concert Singers, in Alfriston, Sussex. Annie has also appeared as a soloist with the English Concert Singers in concerts in Istanbul and Salzburg.

Annie’s recent professional recording engagements include the role of Princess Jacinth in the operetta, A Queen for Sunday (Composer: Leslie Julian Jones), conducted by Iain Sutherland. She has also made television appearances on BBC television, including as a featured vocalist on the Alan Titchmarsh Show and Songs of Praise.
