
Ian currently studies with Arwel Treharne Morgan having previously studied with Mary King. He receives coaching from Liz Rowe, Kelvin Lim and Robert Bottriell. In 2000-01, he trained on The Knack at English National Opera and subsequently at Birkbeck University. Whilst at ENO, he created the role of Rev Joshua Grippe in On Thee We Feed by Richard Chew and Rufus Norris.
Recent operatic roles include: Witch (Hansel and Gretel) with Open Door Opera; Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas) in a concert tour across Southern Spain; Mime (Das Rheingold) with Fulham Opera and Trojan (Idomeneo) with Midsummer Opera. Ian created the role of Operatic Tenor in Benjamin Till’s Pepys Motet which was recorded in October 2010 and performed in a concert version in November 2010. The piece was featured together with Benjamin Till on Radio 3.
Ian has appeared at many venues both in the UK and abroad with companies such as English National Opera, Opera Holland Park, Unexpected Opera, Midsummer Opera, TellTale Opera, Opera North, Open Door Opera, Fulham Opera and Teatro Nacional Madrid. Ian has worked as an Opera Holland Park Company Member since 2002. Ian has also worked as assistant director for Susan Stacey's London Opera Vocal at the National Opera Studio on staged scenes which include Die Walküre, The Beggars Opera, Manon, Albert Herring and Carmen.
TV credits include the premiere of "Children In Need, The Musical" and he sang in the ensemble for Jonathan Dove's TV Opera Death of a Princess.
Ian’s solo oratorio work includes: Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Mass in C Minor, Faure’s Requiem and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.
Future engagements include a return to Opera Holland Park for their 2012 summer season where he will appear in Lucia Di Lamermoor, Falstaff and Eugene Onegin. Other engagements include Gherardo (Gianni Schicchi) with Fulham Opera (Mar 2012); Tenor Soloist in Carmina Burana with Colliers Wood Chorus (Mar 2012); Mime (Das Rheingold) with Wagner Society (Jun 2012) and Fulham Opera (Sep 2012); Jaquino (Fidelio) with Midsummer Opera (Nov 2012) and Mime (Siegfried) with Fulham Opera (Feb 2013). He is also in conversations with the composer Shane Cullinan about collaborations in 2012.
