Soprano Joanna Marie Bleach studied music at Cardiff University and now continues her training with the distinguished singing teacher Ava June.
Joanna works regularly in the chorus of opera companies including Opera Holland Park (2007-10); Midsummer Opera (2010); Alternative Opera (2007) and Camerata Opera (2005). She has also worked as a chorister with the Academy of St-Martin-in-the-Fields and the prestigious Bach Choir.
Operatic roles include Waitress/Reporter in The Barber of Saville Row – Rossini/Riley (Unexpected Opera 2009); Soprano Soloist in ‘Street Opera’ Project (Musik i Halland, Sweden 2008); Belinda in Dido and Aeneas – Purcell (Brent Opera 2008) and Rosina in scenes from The Barber of Seville – Paisello (Opera Integra 2004). Roles at college include Widow (Elixir of Love – Donizetti); First Bridesmaid (Trial by Jury – Sullivan); Yum-Yum (The Mikado – Sullivan) and Second Witch (Dido and Aeneas – Purcell).
Joanna works regularly as an opera busker in Covent Garden and in 2006 she worked as a radio promoter for English National Opera’s ‘Opera in the Park’ production of Puccini’s La bohème. She has sung at numerous charity events and galas to raise funds for the Tsunami appeal, Chicken Shed, The Haiti Earthquake Appeal and The Marie Curie Trust Ball.
Concert work includes recitals and oratorio performances with various companies and orchestras. Recently Joanna has performed recitals with Opera Holland Park and at the Streatham Festival; she also sang as the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Lambeth Orchestra. She has performed as the soprano soloist for Mozart’s Requiem, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, DvoĆák’s Mass in D, Bach’s B minor Mass, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.
Joanna is also a trained music teacher and works as a singing teacher and a choir director in London schools.
