
Susan Jiwey, a British soprano of Portuguese and Iraqi descent, graduated with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She is winner of the Prix Bernac for Best Singer at the Ravel International Academy. She was finalist in the Toulouse International Competition of French Song and the Mâcon International Opera Competition (the only non-French citizen to reach the finals). She is also an English-Speaking Union scholar. During 2012, Susan will make her role debut as Cio Cio San Madam Butterfly with New Devon Opera and will join Scottish Opera. She studies with Susan McCulloch.
Her busy stage career includes the roles of Mimi La Bohème in the award-winning production for OperaUpClose at the Soho Theatre, Berta The Barber of Seville for Grange Park Opera and OperaUpClose, Dido Dido and Aeneus for the Canbury Singers, Angelina Trial By Jury for Opera Minima, Musetta La Boheme for Opera de Baugé, Fidelia Edgar, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Elettra Idomeneo, Arminda La Finta Giardiniera, Leila Pêcheurs des Perles, Adina LʼElisir DʼAmore, Pamina Die Zauberflöte and the Handelian heroines Cleopatra Giulio Cesare, Theodora, and Alcina.
