
Zoe South started her musical life as a professional flautist. Her initial vocal training was as a mezzo soprano and she was the first Sophie’s Silver Lining Fund Scholar at The Opera School Wales in 2005, with roles including Jezibaba (Rusalka) and Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena).
Her professional debut was as Mrs Herring (Albert Herring) for Longborough Festival Opera, and since retraining as a dramatic soprano, roles have included Turandot (all three endings), Ortrud (Lohengrin) for The Wagner Society/Meistersingers, Kundry (Parsifal), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Leonore (Fidelio), Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), and scenes from the Walküre and Götterdämmerung Brünnhildes.
Her large concert and oratorio repertoire includes Ravel’s Sheherezade, Strauss Vier letzte lieder, Stravinsky Les Noces, Verdi Requiem, Beethoven 9th Symphony and Missa Solemnis.
Recent engagements have included the role of The Woman in the stage premiere of Hugill’s When a Man Knows in London, and a concert of Wagner and Mahler with Milton Keynes Sinfonia.
Forthcoming engagements include Woglinde (Das Rheingold) and cover Brünnhilde (Götterdämmerung) for The Wagner Society; Brünnhilde (Die Walküre) and Leonore (Fidelio) for Midsummer Opera (2012).
